Briggs & Riley Transcend Vs. Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 : Carry-Off

Briggs & Riley Transcendand Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 are both tremendous lines that have designed every traveler’s dream: a carry-on that's feather light and 4-wheeled so it is hit-the-road ready. Check out our carry-off to see where each of these bags shines, making you all the more prepared when it comes time to choose the right bag for you.

Fabric has a major influence on not only the look of a bag, but it’s durability too! With these two contenders it ends up being an interesting match-up. The Transcend International Carry-On Wide-Body Spinner uses a super lightweight finely woven nylon that has a beautiful, smooth texture to it. In comparison, the Werks Traveler 5.0 Expandable 8-Wheel Global Carry-On goes with a more thickly woven pattern that hides a hard shell bottom, and boasts exterior corner guards, making it extra durable. If you’re going for looks you may be drawn in by the Transcend’s finer weave that boasts colorful Hunter Green and Red hues, while the Werks Traveler 5.0 will have you sold by its extra reinforcements.

Weight is always going to be important in a carry-on, although with these 4-wheeled rollers you won’t have quite so much to worry about. The Werks Traveler 5.0 is going to win this round at 7.5 lbs. weighing in at one pound less than the Transcend.

Both these bags are sized to fly on most U.S. flights. You’ll find that the Transcend is labeled a wide-body which means the extra 2” on it may may be restricted by some airlines. Check with your carrier to ensure you can carry-on with this bag. The Werks Traveler 5.0 will stay within regulation sizes for all domestic flights, and even features a ½ inch expansion on it to give you a bit more packing space when needed.

While both carry-ons feature handy internal packing aids like the Transcend’s mesh tie-down straps and the Werks Traveler 5.0’s floating divider, the differences between these two will mainly come down to pocket space and setup. The Briggs & Riley Transcend has a few more external pockets on the outside, and will also features exterior handlebars so you are already starting with a flat packing space, while the Victorinox Werks Traveler 5.0 builds flat packing in with their floating divider that you can place on top of shoes and other bottom-of-the-bag items so you have a fresh clean surface. While it may seem like apples and oranges, these setups have pros and cons. Think carefully about which packing style works best for you, as packing makes a huge difference in user experience.

Now that we've matched them up, it's up to you to see who comes out the winner in your eyes. While having different advantages we're confident either of these two carry-ons are sure to please on your upcoming travels!
