Hartmann Buyer’s Guide
Hartmann has been a “symbol of excellence” since 1877—bringing its signature style and attention to detail to a huge range of cases and bags. Originally based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Hartmann brand exploded in popularity in the first part of the 20th century. The company began manufacturing large cases such as the Hartman Trunk and the Hartmann Red X, but quickly moved into more portable cases as fashions changed. Immortalized by Ian Fleming in the James Bond novels, Hartmann cases are synonymous with sophistication, with today’s designs combining form and function to provide a huge range of practical and stylish luggage pieces. Check out our Hartmann buyer’s guide and discover the perfect case for your next trip—wherever you are travelling.

When purchasing a new piece of luggage, carefully considering the materials used within construction is an important part of the process. Here, our Hartmann buyer’s guide looks at how the materials in the hartmann collection stack up against each other
Whether you choose Hartmann hardsided or softsided luggage will depend on your personal travel habits. For increased protection when checking cases, Hartmann hardsided luggage uses 100% virgin polycarbonate or durable and scratch resistant Curv. These hard shell cases provide the ulitamte protection when your bags are sorted by heavy-handed luggage handlers.
Hartmann softsided luggage allows a little more flexibility when packing, but still offers plenty of protection. Whether in twill polyester or ballistic nylon, these cases bring a unique aesthetic while still providing a rugged protective casing that’s suitable for most types of journeys.
Cleaning your Hartmann luggage should be done regularly, and you should always check the instructions. In general, however, a soft cloth and a mild soap is ideal for polycarbonate, while a mild detergent and warm water can be used for fabric cases.
